How awful for that man who was seriously injured by not one, but two cars while crossing Highway 18 recently - according to the San Bernardino Sun. One of the vehicles was driven by a San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy. Both drivers stopped to help the injured pedestrian. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for major injuries.
The accident is under investigation. The San Bernardino Sheriff's department is asking anyone who witnessed this accident to call them at 760-240-7400. No one knows why the individual stepped in front of the vehicles and it is believed that he may not have been in a crosswalk.
Pedestrians are required to cross the street legally and walk in designated areas, such as a crosswalk. Motorists are required to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians who use a crosswalk. I urge the family of this man to find out where he crossed. I also hope the man did not suffer any catastrophic injuries and has a speedy recovery.
