Last Friday many people traveling to work on southbound Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass were late to work. The southbound lanes closed for over five hours due to an earlier accident. About 2:30 a.m., a 41-year old Victorville woman driving a BMW lost control of her vehicle and flipped on the freeway. It ended down a steep embankment according to witnesses. The driver attempted to cross the freeway after the crash and a pickup truck driven by a 26-year old man from Rancho Cucamonga crashed into her. The woman died at the scene.
CHP officials are investigating what caused the woman to lose control of her vehicle in the first place. They are also wondering why she tried to cross the freeway. She probably lost control going around the curve and became disoriented after the crash. Her name was not released pending notification of her family. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved.
