Hospital chain under investigation

A Southern California hospital chain is being investigated by California and Federal authorities for an unusually high rate of life-threatening infections among its older patients. Officials are trying to determine if this high rate of septicemia infections is a serious health problem or multi-million dollar Medicare fraud. The investigation began when lawmakers reviewed questionable Medicare billings - about $2.8 million worth of expenses. 

Pedestrian hit and killed by a car

A 67-year old man walking near Fontana the other night was hit by a vehicle. The driver stopped. When California Highway Patrol officers arrived, the man was lying on the ground. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital where he later died.

Female passenger killed in an automobile accident

A driver on the 15 Freeway in Baker lost control of his vehicle and drifted into the center divider. He jerked the wheel towards the right and caused the vehicle to overturn. His passenger, a 61-year old woman sustained fatal injuries when she was thrown from the truck - even though she was wearing a seatbelt. The San Bernardino County Coroner's office declared her dead at the scene.

Woman crashes replica Indy car

A 24-year old woman participating in the Mario Andretti Driving Experience in Fontana recently crashed into a wall at a high speed, causing her auto to overturn. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died. The "Experience" allow drivers to drive a race car with 600 horsepower for eight minutes, reaching speeds up to 160 mph.

Bicyclist seriously injured in Crestline

A man riding a bicycle along Highway 189 in Crestline the other evening became a victim of a disabling traffic accident. As the 32-year old man was peddling away on a road without a shoulder, a pickup truck came up behind him honking his horn and flashing his lights. The bicyclist had no place to pull over and sped up; the truck stayed on his tail. 

Driver distraction

In a recent news article The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that traffic deathslinked to distracted driving fell 6% compared to the previous year. There were 5,474 deaths in 2009 compared to 5,838 the year before. 

Child hurt by automobile

A young boy was hit by a car the other morning while walking in a crosswalk. The accident happened in Fontana near a middle school. A Rancho Cucamonga woman did not stop even though a crossing guard held up a stop sign.

Pedestrian hit by car

The San Bernardino County Coroner's office announced that a Fontana man who was hit by an automobile on Foothill Boulevard recently has died. The 52-year old man was walking early in the morning when he was hit; he suffered head trauma and was taken to a local hospital. He died 10 days later.

Fatal Phelan car accident

Two men were recently killed on Highway 138 in Phelan when the 54-year old driver of one vehicle lost control and crossed over the center divider and into oncoming traffic - hitting another vehicle. He was driving at about 100 mph according to witnesses. The driver hit another vehicle but that driver was not injured.
