In a recent news article The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that traffic deathslinked to distracted driving fell 6% compared to the previous year. There were 5,474 deaths in 2009 compared to 5,838 the year before.
The year 2009 saw the lowest fatality and injury rates - fatalities declined in all categories, including motorcycles. The Department of Transportation reported, "America's roads are the safest they've ever been. But they must be safer. And we will not rest until they are."
In California, texting and talking on a phone without a handset device is illegal while driving. The Auto Club recently reported that texting while at the wheel has doubled since California banned this action almost two years ago.
