A 20-year old man was killed almost a year ago by a driver driving under the influence of alcohol. The 34-year old intoxicated driver from Pomona collided with the victim's car while he was stopped on Interstate 60.
Recently, the man pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter as part of a plea agreement.
It carries a sentence of one year in jail, which the victim's family felt was too short. The court explained that the driver has no prior criminal history, he expressed remorse and he will make restitution payments to the family of the victim.
When police measured the 34-year old driver's blood alcohol content, it was 0.07% - just a little less than the legal limit of 0.08%. The victim had also been drinking. It is believed he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
