A 28-year old parolee who was stopped by Fontana police officers recently tried to run them over.
After the officers identified themselves to him, he put his vehicle into reverse and tried to get away. One of the officers was able to dive out of the way while the other was hit. As the vehicle sped away, the officers fired at the man, hitting him in his hand.
Police chased the vehicle until it crashed into another vehicle and stopped.
Unfortunately, the other vehicle was driven by a pregnant woman.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure. She and her unborn baby are expected to be fine. The officer who was hit was also taken to a nearby hospital and released. The parolee was also treated for his injuries.
He was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted homicide of a police officer, felony evading and violating parole.
