A 75-year old Landers man was out for a drive with his 11-year old son when tragedy struck them. The man swerved onto the dirt shoulder to avoid hitting a dog. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into a pickup truck.
The young boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his father, who was taken to a local hospital, was pronounced dead there. The pickup truck driver was not injured.
The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is investigating further. The pickup truck driver was very lucky, because, he too, could have been killed.
