A 53-year old man was arrested by San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officers recently on suspicion of driving while under the influence and child endangerment.
The man was driving down a street in Yucaipa when he lost control of his vehicle causing him to drive over the curb and 40 feet of chain link fencing. Once he regained control, he continued on, dragging about 35 feet of support tubing from the fence with him. The tubing pierced the driver's 17 year-old son's shoulder; he was sitting in the front seat.
Witnesses called for help when they saw the fencing and tubing hanging from the vehicle. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to rescue the boy from the vehicle. He was taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics.
