A 41-year old Sacramento man driving on Highway 247 near Barstow the other afternoon drifted into oncoming traffic. It is not known what caused him to do so.
As he approached oncoming traffic, he collided head-on with a 62-year old Barstow man driving a pickup truck. Both vehicles caught on fire.
The Sacramento man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was taken by air to a nearby hospital, where he died a few hours later.
Barstow police are investigating to determine why the man lost control and drifted into oncoming traffic, causing this fatal accident.
