A school bus carrying several students got hit by a 27-year old driver who was said to be driving while under the influence.
The driver, who was driving behind the bus, failed to stop when the bus slowed down to make a right-hand turn. The driver rear-ended the bus causing injury to at least three children. Most had minor injuries, but one was taken to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
When personal injuries are caused by the conduct of a driver impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, the driver not only acted recklessly, but was also negligent. California Vehicle Code Section 23152 states, in part, "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle."
