Two freight trains clipped each other early the other morning, derailing six cars in an underpass below Interstate 10 in Colton.
The impact caused the tanker cars to fall over - causing the day to become very hectic for many commuters when Interstate 10 was closed for more than two hours. In addition, two Colton schools were closed and emergency workers and locomotive crews were kept busy for most of the day.
Luckily, no one was injured, but the crews did refer to the accident as a hazardous materials incident because one of the tankers was carrying toxic liquid.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
