Many commuters were late for work the other day when a big-rig accident in Montclair caused a traffic nightmare on Interstate 10.
It began when a driver of a passenger vehicle lost control for unknown reasons and crashed into the big-rig. The big-rig driver swerved to the left of the road and crashed into another vehicle, causing both vehicles to slam into the center divider. The impact caused the big-rig's diesel tank to rupture, causing the semi to catch on fire. It took firefighters over an hour to extinguish the flames.
The rig-rig driver and one of the other drivers were taken by air to nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Crews used a crane to upright the big-rig while Hazmat personnel cleaned up the spilled fuel on the ground.
