The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported that a woman crossing the street the other night in Victorville was struck by a vehicle.
The woman, assumed to be a transient, was said to be crossing in a "no crossing zone" when she was hit. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died. The driver remained at the scene.
California Vehicle Code 21954 states, "Pedestrians outside the crosswalk shall yield to all traffic so close as to be a hazard. The vehicle has the right of way, but still must drive with care for the pedestrians in the roadway."
