A 25-year old bicyclist was killed last week in Rancho Cucamonga by a hit-and-run driver.
The fatal accident took place close to midnight. The hit-and-run driver hit the bicyclist from behind and then fled the scene - leaving the man in the road. Paramedics took the victim to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later.
Police received several tips from witnesses stating the vehicle was an early 2000 dark red Chevrolet Corvette convertible. The vehicle has damage to the left side of its front bumper, fender and driver's side. They are asking anyone with additional information to contact them.
California Vehicle Code Section 20002 states that it is illegal to flee the scene of an accident. In addition, under Vehicle Code Section 20001, if you flee the scene of an accident in which someone else is injured - or killed - you can be charged with felony hit-and-run, a much more serious offense.
