Officers were informed that a witness who came upon the accident pulled the 44-year old driver out of the vehicle before it burst into flames. He was taken by air to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating to determine what caused this fatal crash; they believe alcohol played a role in it.
