There are more than one million burn cases in the United States every year - killing about three thousand people and injuring more than 15,000. Two fallen power lines in Montclair caused first-degree burns to a woman and approximately $3,000 worth of damage the other day.
After the power lines fell, flames and smoke burned in two backyards - causing a woman to suffer first-degree burns to her chest and face while trying to put out the flames with a garden hose. In addition, the fire destroyed several sheds and a power pole. Montclair firefighters were on the scene and took them about 20 minutes to put the fire out.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
