Those traveling on Interstate 15 in Victorville the other day discovered that the freeway was closed for about 9 hours due to a big-rig that overturned.
Big-rigs, tractor-trailers, and semi-trailers require special skills and training to operate. With the size and weight of these trucks and the low visibility for the driver, trucks have the potential to cause more damage than any other vehicle on the road.
According to CHP officers, a semi-truck pulling double trailers and hauling about 33,000 pounds of plastic bags came up behind a slower moving diesel. The driver thought he was going to crash into it so he veered left and lost control, causing the truck to overturn and block all southbound lanes.
The driver's actions caused the roof of one of the trailers to be torn, resulting in about 33,000 pounds of plastic trash bags to spill onto the road.
The driver sustained minor injuries. No one else was injured.
