Nissan recently announced a recall of more than 120,000 2013 Altima sedans because of a potential blowout risk from a defective spare tire which could increase the risk of a rollover accident.
The company has received at least one report where the spare tire was put on the vehicle and suffered a blowout. To date, they have not received any reports on accidents or injuries.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that a faulty inflation gauge on an air pump was responsible for poor inflation of the spare tire - the tire was either overinflated or under-inflated. The blowout occurs when the temperature in the trunk rises to high levels.
If you own a new 2013 Altima, the company is requesting that you take it to the dealership so the spare tire can be inspected. All damaged or defective tires will be replaced.
A tire blowout can result in devastating and catastrophic injuries or fatalities.
