It's summer in Southern California and the weather is beautiful. Many people enjoy recreational boating on the waterways all over; however, they are often unaware of the dangers that may surround them.
Unfortunately, many adults and children are seriously injured or killed in boat accidents each year due to the negligent actions of others.
The incident occurred Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. in the harbor located at 1901 Jamboree Road, according to Capt. Glenn White of the Newport Beach Fire Department. Recently authorities responded to an accident in Newport involving two boats that left four people injured. Reports indicate that a 25-foot boat traveling at a high speed struck a smaller, slower boat near the harbor, causing it to overturn.
The passengers, one male and three females were taken to nearby hospitals and treated for lacerations, breathing difficulties and a possible fracture. One individual suffered a loss of consciousness.
Police talked to the driver of the larger boat. This is still an ongoing investigation.
I wish the injured passengers a fast and complete recovery.
