Sarah Klein, a 36-year old burlesque performer was killed in a party bus accident that injured ten other people, including her 43-year old husband Raul Padilla.
Reports indicate that the party bus ran head-on into the couple's car as it was stopped on the freeway south of San Francisco. California Highway Patrol officers reported that Padilla was at the wheel when their vehicle appeared to have slammed into a center divider on U. S. 101 before coming to rest - facing oncoming traffic. He was wearing a seatbelt but she was not.
It was determined that the couple had consumed alcohol before the accident took place; however, toxicology tests must be conducted to determine what the driver's blood alcohol content was. It was stated that if Padilla was driving under the influence, he could face manslaughter and felony DUI charges.
Two other vehicles were involved, but no injuries were reported in those vehicles. Those injured were transported to local hospitals. The bus was equipped with seatbelts; however, California law does not require passengers to wear them.
My sincere sympathies go out to the Klein/Padilla family for their tragic loss. In addition, I wish the injured victims a complete recovery.
