Does Your Loved One Use A Wheelchair?

The purpose of placing an elderly loved one in a nursing home is to ensure that they are well cared for and that they receive the medical treatment they need.

Nursing home staffs are trained to provide this treatment and are held to high standards. When a resident has suffered severe injuries or death at the hands of one or more negligent staff, it goes without saying that compensation is deserved.

Did you happen to read about the nursing home workers in Minnesota who were found criminally negligent in their care of an elderly patient?

The two employees attempted to lift this woman into a wheelchair using a mechanical lift, but never checked to make sure all the loops on her sling were properly attached to the lift.

As a result, the woman suffered a bad fall, which caused a lung to collapse and numerous bones to break. She was rushed to a hospital, but died three days later due to respiratory and renal failure - complications from a preventable fall.

The two employees neglected to report the fall and their responsibility in it. They even went as far as to lie about the circumstances. According to the Director of the Office of Health Facility complaints, the two deliberately attempted to cover up what they had done. How very sad and disgraceful!

My sympathies go out to the family of the victim.

Even the best facilities occasionally provide bad treatment to their residents. Protect yourself or your loved ones. Any neglect or abuse committed against another person is horrible; however, these cases are made even worse when they are committed against people whom we have entrusted with the care of our elders.
