A 41-year old woman and her 17-year old passenger were killed recently when their vehicle was hit by several other vehicles.
The woman and her passenger were driving on Interstate 60 in Chino when a flatbed truck changed lanes and hit their vehicle. The impact caused the vehicle to spin across the freeway lanes, hitting a Honda CRX head on, hitting the center divider and then being struck by two different big-rigs.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the 17-year old girl was taken to a local hospital where she died later that day.
CHP officials are investigating the accident but believe the flatbed truck may have made an unsafe lane change. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21658(a), "Whenever a roadway has been divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic in one direction the vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from the lane until such movement can be made with reasonable safety."
I hope they contact an experienced Personal Injury attorney to determine if the driver of the flatbed truck could have been intoxicated, distracted or just driving recklessly. If the driver is found to be at fault, he or she could be held liable for the wrongful deaths of the two women.
