Driving and using drugs

A new California survey shows that one in seven drivers had drugs in their system. Some had legal and some had illegal. More and more drivers are testing positive for drugs, such as marijuana, than they are for alcohol.

With the holidays upon us, this can be a serious problem, not only for the drivers, but for those around them. Reports indicate that more people die on the freeways during this time of year. However, because the holidays are upon us, the California Highway Patrol is preparing for DUI enforcement campaigns.

California Vehicle Code Section 23152(a) states, "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle."

If you are involved in an accident because of the negligent actions of a driver who is under the influence of a drug or alcohol, they can be held liable for the damages caused. Contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will investigate for you and make sure you receive the compensation you deserve.
