Fatal car accident occurs when two vehicles run red light

Drivers throughout Southern California function under the unsaid understanding that certain basic protocols will be followed to keep everyone safe. Stopping at red lights, staying at the scene if there is an auto accident, adhering to all general traffic laws and more are expected from drivers. Unfortunately, there are incidents in which a car accident will occur and it will be due to a series of violations like those listed above. When this happens, there can be injuries and even fatalities. Those who are affected need to be aware of what steps to take after the car collision has taken place.

A 16-year-old high school baseball player died in an auto accident when two different vehicles ran a red light and hit the van he was riding in. The teen and his father, 47, were in a van that was making a left turn when two vehicles hit it. Those two vehicles - a Mercedes-Benz and an Audi - both went through the red signal. The father was hospitalized with injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes, 21, stayed at the scene. He was treated for injuries before being placed under arrest for vehicular manslaughter. The driver of the Audi, a 28-year-old man, fled the scene but was later apprehended for multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, driving recklessly, and hit and run. According to the law enforcement investigation, the two drivers who hit the van had been in a fender bender with one another shortly before crashing into the van. The Audi had fled the scene in that incident as well and the Mercedes driver was chasing him.

If you or a family member has been involved in a car accident with a negligent driver, you should be aware of your legal rights. You may wish to consult an attorney to help decide whether a lawsuit would be appropriate.
